Scholarships and Grants for Study Abroad

A select few organizations offer scholarships specifically for study abroad courses. Follow the links below to receive more information on the requirements and application process of each scholarship.

Gilman International Scholarships

Herron Scholarship for International Study
For Samford students with demonstrated financial need. Please use link below to download the application. For Summer and Fall 2018 programs, completed applications and recommendation letters must be delivered or emailed to the Global Engagement Office by December 1, 2017.

Freeman-ASIA provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of Americans with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures. Award amounts range from a maximum of $5,000 for a semester/quarter program to a maximum of $7,000 for an academic year program.

TCA
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in cooperation with Diversity Abroad are awarding grants per year in the amount of $2,000, $1,000 or $500 for undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey or Cyprus for a academic year, semester or summer. Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate African-American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American students who have already applied and been accepted to participate in a study abroad program at a university tin Turkey or Cyprus through an American educational institution or study abroad provider. Phi Kappa Phi
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year. You do not have to be a member of Phi Kappa Phi. But you do have to:
• Attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75
• Have applied and been accepted to a study abroad program

CGE/CAPA Scholarships
As a member of the Consortia for Global Education (CGE), Samford students can apply for a study abroad grant to participate for any semester program offered by CAPA International Education. From September 2014-2015 a special CAPA grant will provide $10,000 again for semester scholarships for students enrolled in the CGE/CAPA study abroad locations during that time period.
CGE/CAPA Scholarships

Foundation for Global Scholars Scholarships
An award of between $1,000 and $2,500 for study abroad. Scholarships may be used for a variety of programs, including an academic semester or year, service learning, research, and a summer term. In addition to general scholarships, specific travel and STEM scholarships are available, as well as funding for minority students. All undergraduates, plus graduate student are available. Rolling deadlines based on specific programs.
FGS Scholarships

Mark Twain Travel Awards
An award of between $500 and $2,500 for students who wish to enrich their education through exposure to people and places they would otherwise not encounter. Funds are unrestricted and may be used for local or international travel.
Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors in any major, plus recent graduates (within two years of coursework completion) and graduate students are all eligible. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submissions are strongly encouraged.
