Program Description:
If you are applying to study abroad independently with an international university or with a third party provider (i.e. not a Samford program), please fill out this application.  We will use the information you provide to maintain emergency contact data for you, and also to keep track of where you are studying, so that we can support you while you are abroad.

As part of this study abroad application, you will need to complete the International Transient Enrollment form (https://www.samford.edu/uploadedFiles/_Articles/Departments/Registrar/intl-transient-form.pdf). This form will require you to collect signatures from your academic advisor and the department chairs responsible for the departments you would like to receive credit in.  For example, if you are traveling abroad to New Zealand and would like to take a Psychology course while there, the Department Chair of Psychology will need to sign off on whether the course in New Zealand meets the requirements for the particular Samford course you would like to receive credit for.

Your credits will not be added to your transcript until you complete the program.  Depending on the program you study with, you may need to have your transcripts evaluated by either WES (https://www.wes.org/) or AACRAO (http://www.aacrao.org/aacrao-solutions/international-education-services/ies). The Director of Global Engagement can advise you in this regard.  Please be sure to also request that your international transcript be sent to Samford's Registrar's office.

Please note that these programs do not require that you pay a deposit to Samford University; that requirement is waived for you. However, you do need complete all other items requested.  If you choose to enroll in Samford's international insurance (CISI), a charge for your insurance will be placed on your student account ($35 per month).  Many third party providers and international universities provide health insurance, or have a particular health insurance that they require while you are abroad. The Global Engagement Office can advise you in this regard.  Please be sure to set up an appointment to meet with the Director of Global Engagement to discuss your study abroad program.

You will be responsible for all costs related to your program, and, depending on the program, will pay those to Samford or directly to the third party provider or international university.  Unless you choose to enroll in SU's insurance, you will not need to pay SU for any costs related to independent study abroad.
