Study Abroad Scholarships

A select few organizations offer scholarships specifically for study abroad courses. Follow the links below to receive more information on the requirements and application process of each scholarship.

 

Gilman International Scholarships

Course of study must be at least 21 days in length. Applicants are required to be currently receiving a Federal Pell Grant. Applications for Spring and Summer 2019 open in August 2018. Contact the Global Engagement Office (geo@samford.edu) for more details.

Freeman-ASIA provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of Americans with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures. Award amounts range from a maximum of $5,000 for a semester/quarter program to a maximum of $7,000 for an academic year program.

TCA

The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in cooperation with Diversity Abroad are awarding grants per year in the amount of $2,000, $1,000 or $500 for undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey or Cyprus for a academic year, semester or summer. Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate African-American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American students who have already applied and been accepted to participate in a study abroad program at a university in Turkey or Cyprus through an American educational institution or study abroad provider. Phi Kappa Phi

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year. You do not have to be a member of Phi Kappa Phi. But you do have to:
• Attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75
• Have applied and been accepted to a study abroad program
Applications and any supporting documents will be accepted from 7/1/2018 to 11:59 p.m. CT on 9/15/2018.

As a member of the Consortia for Global Education (CGE), Samford students can apply for a study abroad grant to participate for any semester program offered by CAPA International Education.

FEA Scholarships

The mission of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is to provide scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the US study abroad population. FEA makes life-changing, international experiences accessible to all by supporting minority, community college, and first-generation college students before, during, and after they participate in education abroad programs. Programs must be at least 28 days in length.
